Galata’s Hotel is situated in Karaköy, a vital location for Istanbul’s vibrant art scene. Upon arrival, the visitors are invited to experience what may be the most exciting feature of the building; a panoramic elevator and a fluid staircase, which pierces through the hotel’s 7 floors gallery space, with a unique form appearing between each floor. Though, the relatively big void is meant to serve a much zestful purpose, and that is to be used as a vertical art gallery. Galata’s Hotel’s 4 floors-high guest corridors are designed to offer a contemporary gallery space for various modern artists’ work. As well as natural sunlight the from the glass ceiling, the artificial lighting was also curated in a meticulous, museum like fashion to let the visitors experience the artworks both day and night.
The sculpture-like staircase piercing through the building acts almost as an exposed spine, and enables the user to view the entire exhibition in one climb.
